Low voltage motor soft starters use scr(thyristor)as the main control device. By adjusting the trigger angle of scr to reduce the incoming voltage to the motor. The current is monitored until the motor reaches to full speed. The thyristors then bypassed by connecting the motor directly to the power supply by ac contactor. Motor soft starter protects motor from damage by the inrush current when startup.
